Worth mentioning: Jeff Gordon continues to lead the Sprint Cup Series points standings, holding an 11-point lead over Matt Kenseth. Kyle Busch is third, Carl Edwards is fourth and Dale Earnhardt Jr. is fifth. Following his win in the 600, Jimmie Johnson is sixth.
Jimmie Johnson: Victory Lane at Charlotte Motor Speedway. It’s as if he never left.
Kevin Harvick: He looks strong enough to win almost every week. Unfortunately, pit road and parts problems have hampered his quest.
Jamie McMurray: Won $1 million the first weekend at Charlotte and a season’s-best fifth-place finish in the second.
Jeff Gordon: Fought through back problems and still managed a seventh-place finish in the 600.
Kurt Busch: Finished sixth in the Indy 500. Who would have thought he would have more problems in his NASCAR ride?
Kyle Larson: Earned his second Nationwide Series win of the season in dominating fashion at Charlotte.
Kasey Kahne: This team just can’t seem to get out of its own way sometimes.
Martin Truex Jr.: Had all the makings of a much-needed top-five run until a broken axle ruined the night.
