If you want to witness a moment in history, go to South Sound Stadium on Oct. 4.
The first junior college football game will be played in Washington for the first time in 13 years.
Kory Hill’s dream will come true when South Puget Sound Community College plays Tacoma Community College at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 4. Green River will play Yakima Community College at 2 p.m.
“It’s been an uphill climb,” said Joe Stinton, the South Puget Sound coach. “Not much help from anyone. We’ve been doing it on our own. This Sunday is the inaugural game. It’s the first time a JC game has ever been played here.”
To be eligible, players must be enrolled for at least five credits at the school they will play and be between ages 18 and 24.
But the teams have no backing or affiliation with the schools, other than the players are enrolled in school.
But that doesn’t matter to the 27 players on South Puget Sound’s roster.
“It’s an amazing opportunity,” said Patrick Kot, SPSCC’s starting quarterback and Yelm graduate.
