Kelsey Baker came off the bench to score a game-high 16 points and grab six rebounds to help the Saint Martin's women's basketball team beat Cal State East Bay, 70-59, on Saturday at the 14th annual WWU Lynda Goodrich Women's Basketball Classic in Bellingham.
Baker finished 7-of-9 from the field and 2-of-3 from the foul line for the Saints (4-2).
Roni Jo Mielke added 12 points for SMU. Dara Zack had 11 points and eight rebounds, and Andrea Schutt scored 11 points – all in the first half, which ended with the Saints leading 38-23.
The Pioneers (0-2) pulled to seven points at 51-44 with 8:06 to play, but SMU scored 12 straight points, including back-to-back 3-pointers by Mielke to seal the win.
EVERGREEN, SPSCC WOMEN LOSE
The Evergreen State College women’s team lost to Whitman, 68-46, and South Puget Sound Community College fell against Edmonds, 67-61. No other information was available.
At Colorado School of Mines 80, Saint Martin’s 62: Brett Green scored 22 points as the Orediggers (4-0) defeated the Saints.
Jeremy Green led the Saints (5-2 ) with 13 points.
Carroll College 86, Evergreen 67: Tyrell Dixon scored 16 points to lead the Geoducks (1-5), who fell to the Fighting Saints (7-2) at Lewis-Clark State’s holiday tournament.
Whatcom CC 71, at South Sound CC 58: Travon Young scored a game-high 19 points and grabbed five rebounds, but the Clippers fell to the Orcas. William Sharp added 11 points, five assists and four rebounds for SPSCC.
