With one week’s worth of games behind us, here’s the debut of our weekly Pac-12 power rankings.
Ranking/Team (overall record, Pac-12 record, streak)
1. Southern California (1-0, 0-0, W1)
Last week: W, 55-6, vs. Arkansas State
Never miss a local story.
This week: vs. Idaho, 5 p.m. Saturday (Pac-12 Networks)
Comment: Trojans picked up a lopsided win in Week 1, but gave up a bunch of yards (and sacks) in the process.
2. Oregon (1-0, 0-0, W1)
Last week: W, 61-42, vs. Eastern Washington
This week: at Michigan State, 5 p.m. Saturday (ABC)
Comment: EWU is a solid outfit, no doubt. But allowing 42 points to anybody the week before traveling to East Lansing has to be considered alarming. Ducks have much to prove.
3. UCLA (1-0, 0-0, W1)
Last week: W, 34-16, vs. Virginia
This week: at UNLV, 7:30 p.m. Saturday (CBS Sports Network)
Comment: Josh Rosen couldn’t have looked better in his collegiate debut. Bruins are in business.
4. Utah (1-0, 0-0, W1)
Last week: W, 24-17, vs. Michigan
This week: vs. Utah State, 6 p.m. Friday (ESPN2)
Comment: It remains to be seen how good Michigan will be under first-year coach Jim Harbaugh. Regardless, that was a big win for the Utes.
5. Arizona (1-0, 0-0, W1)
Last week: W, 42-32, vs. Texas-San Antonio
This week: at Nevada, 4 p.m. Saturday (CBS Sports Network)
Comment: Wildcats defense could be in serious trouble for as long as it takes LB Scooby Wright to get healthy.
6. California (1-0, 0-0, W1)
Last week: W, 73-14, vs. Grambling State
This week: vs. San Diego State, 2 p.m. Saturday (Pac-12 Networks)
Comment: After thrashing an overmatched opponent in Week 1, Bears still have something to prove this week against Aztecs.
7. Arizona State (0-1, 0-0, L1)
Last week: L, 38-17, vs. Texas A&M
This week: vs. Cal Poly, 8 p.m. Saturday (Pac-12 Networks)
Comment: Lots of talk from ASU at Pac-12 media day about a national championship. Well …
8. Stanford (0-1, 0-0, L1)
Last week: L, 16-6, at Northwestern
This week: vs. UCF, 7:30 p.m. Saturday (FOX Sports 1)
Comment: There was reason to think the Cardinal’s offense might take a step forward this year. Fifth-year senior quarterback. A few solid receiving options. Talented tailbacks. But none of that showed up at Northwestern.
9. Washington (0-1, 0-0, L1)
Last week: L, 16-13, at Boise State
This week: vs. Sacramento State, 11 a.m. Saturday (Pac-12 Networks)
Comment: Huskies need at least a solid offensive performance this week to cleanse themselves of ugly outing at Boise State.
10. Oregon State (1-0, 0-0, W1)
Last week: W, 26-7, vs. Weber State
This week: at Michigan, 9 a.m. Saturday (ABC)
Comment: Underwhelming debut for Gary Andersen and crew, though the Beavers might be on to something with freshman quarterback Seth Collins.
11. Colorado (0-1, 0-0, L1)
Last week: L, 28-20, at Hawaii
This week: vs. Massachusetts, 11 a.m. Saturday (Pac-12 Networks)
Comment: Seemed plausible that the Buffaloes could go 4-0 to start the season. 3-1 still isn’t bad, right?
12. Washington State (0-1, 0-0, L1)
Last week: L, 24-17, vs. Portland State
This week: at Rutgers, 12:30 p.m. Saturday (ESPNU)
Comment: Worst loss in school history = last place in the power rankings.
