Morgan rolls, Rolsma boots as Central stays unbeaten

Cole Morgan passed for 217 yards and Garrett Rolsma booted three field goals and a pair of PATs as unbeaten Central Washington clinched its fifth Great Northwest Athletic Conference football championship with a 23-9 win over Dixie State on Saturday in St. George, Utah.

With the win, the No. 2-ranked Division II Wildcats improved their record to 10-0 overall and 5-0 in conference.

Rolsma, a senior from University Place, had first-half field goals of 37 and 23 yards, and added a 44-yarder in the second half.

Morgan completed 17 of 27 passes and did not throw an interception. He also ran 5 yards for a score on Central’s opening possession of the third quarter, a play set up by Jerome Williams’ 72-yard kickoff return.

Puyallup senior Johnny Spevak was the Wildcats’ top receiver with six receptions with six for 65 yards.

At No. 6 Boise State 45, San Jose State 7: Kellen Moore threw for 278 yards and three touchdowns – one a 61-yarder to younger brother freshman Kirby Moore – and ran for another to get the Broncos their eighth consecutive win. Boise State (8-0, 3-0 WAC) got help from its defense, which held the Spartans (1-6, 0-3) to 223 yards and forced two turnovers that led to touchdowns.

Kellen Moore’s three TD passes gave him 24 this season.

At No. 19 Utah 22, Wyoming 10: Utes freshman Jordan Wynn passed for 82 yards and a touchdown in his college debut, replacing starter Terrance Cain after Utah (7-1, 4-0 Mountain West) fell behind 10-3 at halftime. Eddie Wide ran for 135 yards and a touchdown and the Utes’ defense shut down the Cowboys (4-4, 2-2) in the second half.

Missouri 36, at Colorado 17: Danario Alexander caught two touchdown passes and Mizzou’s (5-3, 1-3 Big 12) swarming defense had eight sacks and forced four turnovers, helping the Tigers hold off Colorado (2-6, 1-3).

The Tigers jumped out to a big lead, scoring 33 points in a row, and appeared on their way to a rout. Instead they had to hold off Colorado’s second-half surge, stopping three Buffaloes’ drives on fourth-down stops and another on an interception.

At Idaho 35, Louisiana Tech 34: DeMaundray Woolridge ran for a 2-yard touchdown with 52 seconds left as the Vandals (7-2, 4-1 WAC) rallied after trailing all afternoon to beat the Bulldogs (3-5, 2-3). Tech’s Matt Nelson attempted a 56-yard field goal with one second left, but it was wide left.

Idaho junior quarterback Nate Enderle went 25-for-45 with two touchdown passes and two interceptions for 327 yards.

At Fresno State 31, Utah State 27: Ryan Mathews, the nation’s leading rusher, ran for 185 yards, including a 10-yard touchdown with 4:53 remaining, to lift the Bulldogs (5-3, 4-1 WAC) past the stubborn Aggies (2-6, 1-3).

At Nevada 31, Hawaii 21: Colin Kaepernick threw two touchdown passes and rushed for a pair of scores to lead the Wolf Pack (5-3, 4-0 WAC) to a the victory over the Warriors (2-6, 0-5).

At Montana 31, Weber State 10: Chase Reynolds carried 33 times for 241 yards and a touchdown as the Grizzlies (8-0, 5-0) defeated the Wildcats (5-4, 5-2) in a battle of the Big Sky Conference’s top two teams.
