Unbeaten regular season for Wildcats

WEST: Central Washington rolls past Western Oregon, 20-6, improves to 11-0

Cole Morgan ran for a touchdown and threw for another as Central Washington beat Western Oregon, 20-6, in Monmouth, Ore., on Saturday for the Wildcats’ first unbeaten regular season since 2002.

Morgan’s 14-yard touchdown run opened the scoring with 5 minutes, 46 seconds remaining in the first period for the NCAA Division II second-ranked Wildcats (11-0 overall, 6-0 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) against the Wolves (5-5, 3-3).

Morgan then connected with Puyallup High graduate Johnny Spevak for a 66-yard touchdown early in the second half to extend Central’s lead to 13-0

Randall Eldridge scored on a 7-yard run with 4:04 to go in the third period to give the Wildcats a 20-0 lead.

Spevak finished with three catches for 83 yards. His touchdown was the 53rd of his career, breaking the school record.

No. 6 TCU 55, at San Diego State 12: Andy Dalton threw two touchdown passes and ran for two more as the Horned Frogs (9-0, 5-0 Mountain West) won their 11th in a row by beating the Aztecs (4-5, 2-3).

The Horned Frogs remained in the chase for their first BCS bowl with a dominating performance.

“That’s the big thing,” Dalton said. “Our ultimate goal is to end the season undefeated. We have a lot of potential but we have to keep going out and playing like this.”

Dalton led an offense that scored on five of its first six possessions and gained more than 500 yards for the second consecutive game. The Horned Frogs were ahead of fellow undefeated Boise State, from the Western Athletic Conference, in last week’s BCS standings.

“Early in the season on the road, we didn’t start out fast,” TCU coach Gary Patterson said.

At No. 17 Utah 45, New Mexico 14: Jordan Wynn passed for 297 yards and two touchdowns in his first college start and Eddie Wide set a school record with his sixth consecutive 100-yard rushing game as the Utes (8-1, 5-0 Mountain West) beat the Lobos (0-9, 0-5).

“He’s performing like we need him to,” Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said of Wynn. “He’s not playing like a true freshman.”

No. 25 BYU 52, at Wyoming 0: Max Hall threw for 312 yards and four touchdowns in just over two quarters as the Cougars (7-2, 4-1 Mountain West) beat the Cowboys (4-5, 2-3) for the sixth time in a row.

Hall has 28 career wins, one behind Heisman Trophy winner Ty Detmer, who played at BYU from 1988 to 1991.

“I plan on winning the next three,” Hall said. “Really it’s an honor for me to be able to play three years here and to have a chance to be the all-time leader in wins.”

Hall completed throws to seven different receivers before taking a seat midway through the third quarter.

“My numbers were good, but I think that is because the guys around me played well,” said Hall, who noted that he has put up similarly impressive numbers when playing video games. “When those guys play well it makes me look good.”

It was the most lopsided loss for Wyoming since 1985 when BYU beat the Cowboys, 59-0.

“We came out and didn’t compete from the beginning to the end of the game,” Wyoming coach Dave Christensen said. “It is so uncharacteristic of what this group has done the entire season.”

At Colorado 35, Texas A&M 34: Rodney Stewart ran 20 times for 118 yards and two touchdowns and Markques Simas caught seven passes for 135 yards as the Buffaloes (3-6, 2-3 Big 12) held off the Aggies (5-4, 2-3).

At Air Force 35, Army 7: Kevin Fogler caught a 73-yard touchdown pass and Anthony Wright returned a punt 88 yards for a score as the Falcons (6-4) beat the Black Knights (3-6) for the fourth time in a row.

Montana 12, at Idaho State 10: Brody McKnight’s 33-yard field goal on the final play sealed the comeback win as the Grizzlies (9-0, 6-0) claimed their 12th Big Sky Conference title with the win over the Bengals (0-10, 0-7).

Montana State 28, at Portland State 10: Blayde Becksted and Everett Gilbert each scored a rushing touchdown as the Bobcats (6-3, 4-2 Big Sky) beat the Vikings (2-8, 1-6).

At UC Davis 23, Cal Poly 10: Greg Denham completed 21 of 36 passes for 278 yards and a touchdown and Sean Kelley kicked three field goals as the Aggies (5-4, 2-1 Great West) beat the Mustangs (4-5, 1-2).
