The Capital High School girls gymnastics team finished seventh at the Class 3A state championships Friday at the Tacoma Dome Exhibition Hall.
The Cougars — Maria Dunning, Kaitlyn Mahoney, Lexi Berschauer, Izzy Sanchez, Ariana DeJesus, Emma Wirzbicki and Brooklyn Cope — finished with 153.050 points.
Winning the competition was Holy Names with 178.150 as they finished first in each of the events (bars, beam, floor and vault).
Capital’s best team finish was in the vault, where it finished sixth. Dunning and Mahoney had the top marks, scoring 8.225. Sanchez had the best score of the day with a 9.025 in the floor exercise.
On Thursday, Dunning was the highest finishing Cougar in the all-around competiton, finishing 26th overall with a score of 32.825. Sanchez finished tied for 30th with Cassandra Middlestead of Port Angeles, both with a score of 32.025.
Timberline’s Morgan Lasko finished 29th, edging Sanchez and Middlestead at 32.375. Lasko did well on the vault portion of the state finals, finishing 13th with a score of 8.950.
