The Capital High boys basketball team's defense shut down visiting Seaside, Ore., in the second half to earn its second victory in as many days with a 50-33 win over the Seagulls to conclude the inaugural Capital Holiday Classic Thursday night at Capital High School.
Capital (7-2) held Seaside, a Class 4A school on the Oregon coast, to two third-quarter points and 10 in the second half. Capital led, 30-21, at the half.
The Cougars got 22 points off 21 Seaside turnovers. Colin Bossio scored 16 points for Capital.
In the day’s earlier game, Bremerton edged out Scappoose (Ore.), 50-43. Andre Coleman and Marshall Stevens scored in double figures for the Knights, scoring 14 and 10 points, respectively. Bremerton and Capital each won both their games in the two-day tournament.

River Ridge 76, Kennedy Catholic 61: The Hawks snapped a three-game losing skid, defeating the Lancers in the final day of the Les Schwab Christmas Classic at Kennedy High School.
Rahmel Moton had a season-best 20 points, and was one of five Hawks to score in double figures. .
Napavine 57, Rainier 46: Despite getting double-figures scoring from Dalton Delio (12) and Brandon Eygabroad (11), Rainier dropped its second non-league game in as many days.
Olympia 61, Chehalis 53: The Bears got their third victory in four games and improved to 3-5 overall with a non-league victory over the 2A Bearcats. Senior guard Lauren Herseth led Olympia with a career-best 34 points. She was 7-of-9 on 3-pointers and also was a perfect 9-of-9 from the free throw line.
Chehalis outscored Olympia 18-9 in the second quarter to get within four points at halftime at 29-25 before the Bears’ offense picked up in the second half.
Uriah Thomas, Chehalis’ 6-foot junior post, had a season-high 27 points.
Oak Harbor 51, North Thurston 49: The Rams’ comeback fell short in the finale of the Santa Slam tournament at Oak Harbor High School.
North Thurston led 25-23 at halftime, but Oak Harbor outscored the visiting Rams 13-7 to take a four-point lead into the final quarter.
Chelsey Kindle had 10 points to lead the Rams.
Emerald Ridge 68, Yelm 63: Anushka Maldonado had a team-high 21 points and Jaynani Cababat had 18 to in a losing effort for Yelm. The Class 4A Jaguars turned a five-point hafltime lead into a comfortable 53-36 lead going into the fourth quarter.
