TUMWATER- For the second year in a row, Olympia has Bellarmine Prep's number in boys golf.
Led by Dominick Francks’ season-best round of 2-under par, Olympia came away with a 163-158 4A Narrows League match victory over the Lions at Tumwater Valley Golf Course on Thursday.
“We were ready,” Olympia coach Skip Fabritius said. “These guys have not been playing their best the last week, and they showed up today and were ready to play.”
Last year, Olympia defeated Bellarmine, 148-146, on the Lions’ home course for the Bears’ first win over Bellarmine since Fabritius became coach 10 years ago.
Francks and Bellarmine’s Chris Tedesco tied for medalist honors, shooting 70. The Bears also got great play from Patrick Nugent, who shot a 74, followed by Brendan McCauley (76) and Kyle Thies (78).
With matches remaining against Gig Harbor and Central Kitsap, unbeaten Olympia is on pace to win its second straight league title.
Capital 126, Yelm 71: TJ Griggs shot a 1-over 72 at Olympia Golf and Country Club to helping the Cougars beat the Tornados.
Timberline 50, Lincoln 14: Cooper Podowicz shot a 4-over 40 to lead the Blazers at Capital City Golf Course.
BASEBALL
Timberline 16, River Ridge 2: The 3A Narrows League champion Blazers stretched their winning streak to 13 games with a nonleague win over the Hawks. Charlie Hinson, the winning pitcher, had three hits and three RBI, and Cobi Beal and Derek Wells each hit home runs. The Blazers scored 13 runs in the second inning.
Chehalis 9, Tumwater 3: Justin Wilson and Yasser Kahn belted home runs for the EvCo-leading Bearcats, while Mitch Gueller held the Thunderbirds to two hits. Gueller also was 2-for-4 with three RBI. Payten Olson and Jamison Dowers had Tumwater’s hits.
BOYS SOCCER
Yelm 6, Foss 0: Sabastian Menseses and Daniel Gonzalez scored two goals apiece as Yelm earned its third win in four games. Jacob Smith earned the shutout in goal.
Capital 1, Wilson 1: For the second time in two weeks, the Cougars and Rams ended in a tie. It was the third tie of the season for the Cougars (8-0-3). Jeffrey Tran scored Capital’s goal in the 27th minute.
GIRLS TENNIS
North Thurston 4, Black Hills 2: The Rams got straight-set wins from Sidney Smith (No. 2 singles), Star Simon (No. 3 singles) and Sheree Enlow and Shanelle Enlow (No. 2 doubles). No. 3 doubles team Julianne Campbell and Arielle Mussman needed three sets, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Julie Hansen (No. 1 singles) and Madilyn Sayler and Ellie Justice (No. 1 doubles) won for Black Hills.
Capital 4, Yelm 1: The Cougars won three of four matches in straight sets for their their third match win.
In a duel between two of the top singles players in South Sound, Capital’s Lauren McCann topped Yelm’s Emma Leimback, 6-3, 6-0.
