Ashley Andrews, a 2008 Tumwater High graduate who starred in basketball and fastpitch, has joined the University of Washington's softball program as an assistant coach, the school announced Thursday, July 31.
This is the first assistant coaching gig for Andrews, who was a four-year starter between shortstop and catcher at Tennessee from 2009-'12. She served as a graduate assistant at Tennessee while finishing her master's degree in sports psychology.
Andrews was an all-state fastpitch and basketball player at Tumwater. She earned Olympian all-area player of the year honors in basketball as a junior in 2007, helping the Thunderbirds to the Class 2A state title game. In fastpitch, as a sophomore in '06, she helped Tumwater win the 3A fastpitch state title, as the T-Birds compiled a 26-1 record.
