A student of gymnastics since elementary school, Mia Tabbutt grew into a teacher's role, too.
Nyle Taylor cashed in on all the hard work recently at the Class 3A state meet, where he placed ninth in the 100-yard freestyle, 12th in the 200 freestyle and swam legs on two relays that also placed. Those efforts helped make him The Olympian's all-area boys swimmer of the year.
TACOMA - Capital's Mia Tabbutt wanted to change her floor exercise routine after taking a few spills in warm-ups before the finals in the 3A state gymnastics meet Saturday.
Fifteen months ago, Mia Tabbutt got the news she dreaded. She suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee during a Level 10 floor routine - the top competition level in gymnastics - in November 2009, just prior to the start of her junior season.
