YAKIMA - Tom Kelly felt a little anxious. Just when the Pullman Greyhounds cut what had been an 11-point River Ridge lead to three in a Class 2A state tournament quarterfinal Thursday, the Hawks coach called a timeout and switched things up.

YAKIMA - For a team that won two third-place trophies the past three seasons, losing an opening-round game at the state tournament is something out of the ordinary for the River Ridge boys.
YAKIMA - The top-ranked River Ridge Hawks survived - barely. It's not often a team shoots 19.7 percent from the field and wins, but River Ridge did in its 47-44 come-from-behind win over Lynden on Wedensday in the first round of the girls 2A state tournament.
