After scoring just three runs in three games while being swept in Atlanta, the Cleveland Indians acquired outfielder Jason Kubel and cash on Friday from the Arizona Diamondbacks to help their playoff push.
Kubel, who hit 30 homers last season for Arizona, has struggled in his second year with the Diamondbacks. He was designated for assignment earlier this week.
In exchange for Kubel, the Diamondbacks will receive a player to be named later or cash.
Kubel was batting just .220 with five homers and 32 RBI in 89 games.

Also, the Indians signed free agent and former Seattle Mariners catcher Kelly Shoppach to a minor league deal and assigned him to Triple-A Columbus.
Shoppach spent four seasons (2006-09) with the Indians after he was acquired in a trade with from the Boston Red Sox.
The 33-year-old spent the first 21/2 months of the season with Seattle, batting just .196 with three homers and nine RBI in 35 games before he was released on June 20.
PHILLIES, CUBAN PITCHER GONZALEZ SIGN $12M DEAL
The Philadelphia Phillies and Cuban pitcher Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez have agreed to a $12 million, three-year contract.
General manager Ruben Amaro announced the deal during Philadelphia’s game at the Chicago Cubs on Friday. The team says it includes an option for 2017, a signing bonus and performance bonuses.
The 26-year-old Gonzalez defected to Mexico this year and worked out for scouts in Tijuana. The hard-throwing right-hander has a fastball that reaches the upper 90s.
The Cardinals acquired right-handed reliever John Axford from the Brewers for a player to be named later. … The Reds recalled left-hander Zach Duke and optioned right-hander Nick Christiani to Triple-A Louisville.
