An injury to EJ Manuel and Kevin Kolb’s potentially career-ending concussion have forced the Buffalo Bills to search for a healthy quarterback.
On Sunday, the Bills signed former Arizona Cardinals quarterback Matt Leinart and traded linebacker Chris White to the Detroit Lions for ex-Cleveland Browns quarterback Thaddeus Lewis.
Before Sunday’s signings, former Washington State player Jeff Tuel was the Bills’ only healthy quarterback.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Kolb suffered a concussion in Saturday’s exhibition loss to the Washington Redskins. A source told Schefter that Kolb’s concussion is considered “serious” and could be career-ending. He will undergo a series of tests to determine the extent of the problem.

Kolb missed time in 2010 and 2012 with concussions.
Manuel (knee) is out for the remainder of the exhibition season and is questionable for the regular-season opener against the New England Patriots.
Leinart most recently played for the Oakland Raiders. In April, he lost out to Brady Quinn in a tryout for a backup job with the Seattle Seahawks.
At 49ers 34, Vikings 14: Colin Kaepernick finished 7-for-13 passing for 72 yards and a touchdown, and Lavelle Hawkins returned a kickoff 105 yards for a score as San Francisco (2-1) stopped Minnesota (0-3).
The 49ers’ Colt McCoy went 11-for-15 passing for 109 yards.
“I feel real good that Colt’s the backup,” coach Jim Harbaugh said.
Reigning league MVP Adrian Peterson didn’t touch the ball in one series of action for Minnesota, but Christian Ponder threw a pair of touchdown passes and finished 17-for-23 for 116 yards.
Saints 31, at Texans 23: Houston’s Andre Johnson had 131 yards receiving before halftime in his first extended work of the exhibition season, but New Orleans’ backups scored two second-half touchdowns to help the Saints rally.
Matt Schaub threw for 213 yards for Houston (2-1).
Drew Brees passed for 104 yards and a touchdown for New Orleans (3-0).
