SEATTLE — Seattle University has self-reported a secondary violation in its men’s basketball program to the NCAA, making the Redhawks ineligible for this year’s Division II tournament.
The Great Northwest Athletic Conference said Friday that the violation involved the certification of a player who played in 21 games this season before the school voluntarily withheld him from the past five games.
Despite a 17-9 record, 10-7 in the conference, it was unlikely the Redhawks would have made the tournament in their final year as Division II members. Seattle U begins the transition to Division I next year.
