PORTLAND, Ore. — The Portland Trail Blazers say guard Brandon Roy had successful knee surgery and will be ready to play when the Blazers open the season against the Los Angeles Lakers.
The former rookie of the year out of the University of Washington underwent arthroscopic surgery Thursday.
Blazers athletic trainer Jay Jensen told The Oregonian that Roy will be off crutches next week.
The Blazers begin their training camp on Sept. 29. The season opener is Oct. 28.
Jensen says the torn cartilage was not caused by any one incident.
