BONNEY LAKE – Kole Podowicz scored a game-high 23 points to help Timberline beat nonleague foe Bonney Lake 52-50 in overtime.

"We do find a way to get it done," Timberline coach Mike Tafoya said.

The overtime win was Timberline's second as the Blazers enter the conference portion of their schedule.

"It's shown we can play close games, it's a good sign," Tafoya said. "We can make good decisions."

Diante Rudolph added 12 for the Blazers.

RAINIER 47, MONTESANO 41

Kyle North scored 12 points and dished out five assists to keep Rainier undefeated in its 1A Evergreen Division.

Brandon Eygabroad also added 12 points for the Mountaineers, going 4-of-4 from the field and hitting clutch free throws to seal the victory.

"I think we have good team chemistry," Rainier coach Josh Frunz said of his team's success."

Sophomore Chris Ashby made his presence felt on a program with many returning starters, scoring seven points in relief of the team's rebounding leader who got into foul trouble, Bradon Franklin.

Wilson 68, Capital 54

Capital improved its offensive output with each quarter but it wasn't enough in a nonleague loss to a tough 4A opponent.

"We came out tentative and that's not the way we play basketball," Capital coach Doug Galloway said. "We had to press and take chances (toward the end)."

That led to a 25-point fourth quarter for Wilson to secure the victory.

Senior forward Joseph Ingman led Capital with 11 points as the team struggled from the field shooting 17-of-46.

Ingman shot 7-of-10 from the free throw line.

"I think this is good for us to realize," Galloway said of the Cougars upcoming conference schedule. "When we don't prepare people will take advantage of us."

TIMBERLINE 11, NORTH THURSTON 7

Junior Tamara Upton gave Timberline a much-needed two points in a tight 3A Western Cascade victory.

Bowling 176 and 188 in two games, Upton contributed to the win with other key efforts from Jamie Sheppard and Amanda Johns.

North Thurston kept it close with great individual efforts from Annika Johansen, Marrisa Lewis, Ashley Patterson and freshman Mallory Dobbs.

The game had been suspended from last week due to a blackout in the area. It was the Blazers' second match this season against North Thurston, the previous game being also close.

"We bring out the best in both of us," Timberline coach John Wilson said of the conference rivalry. "I've known the coach there for the whole time we've been coaching. We have good humor with each other and we're very competitive."

Both teams are 6-3 overall and will play a third time at Aztec Lanes, home for North Thurston, on the last regular season match.
