College basketball highlights: WSU women snap Boise State’s streak



April Cook scored 18 points to lead Washington State to an 85-76 victory over Boise State on Thursday night, snapping the Broncos' 19-game home winning streak.

Cook was one of five Cougars to score in double figures. Katie Appleton had 16 points, Jazmine Perkins had 15, Rosie Tarnowski scored 13 and Heather Molzen had 11 as Washington State evened its record at 1-1.

June Daugherty, who now coaches the Cougars, coached Boise State from 1989 to 1996.

La'Lara Walker led Boise State with 16 points. Marisa Stotler, a Washington State transfer, had 14 points for the Broncos (2-1).

NO. 1 UCONN 99, SAN DIEGO ST. 55

At Hartford, Conn., Maya Moore scored 21 points as Connecticut extended its home winning streak to 26 games.

Tina Charles added 17 points for UConn (2-0), which has now won 89 straight games over unranked opponents.

NO. 8 STANFORD 84, NEW MEXICO 46

At Stanford, Calif., Jillian Harmon led five players in double figures with 13 points, and Stanford responded from a tough loss at Baylor with a rout of New Mexico.

Freshman Nnemkadi Ogwumike came off the bench to add 11 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots for the Cardinal (2-1), who dropped six spots in this week's rankings from No. 2 after their 81-65 defeat Sunday at Baylor.

Stanford controlled this game from the start on the way to winning its 19th straight regular-season home game at Maples Pavilion since a loss to rival California on Feb. 4, 2007.

NO. 11 MARYLAND 90, JAMES MADISON 76

At College Park, Md., Kristi Toliver had 27 points and 10 assists, Lynetta Kizer scored 18 points, and Maryland used an 18-3 second-half run to pull away from James Madison.

NO. 21 PURDUE 70, PORTLAND 50

At West Lafayette, Ind., FahKara Malone made four of six 3-pointers in scoring 17 points and Purdue beat Portland.

Chantel Poston scored 15 points off the bench for Purdue, which scored 26 points off turnovers. Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton shot 6-of-8 from the field and scored 14. Danielle Campbell chipped in 11 — nine on free throws — for the Boilermakers (2-0).

Laiken Dollente had 19 points to pace the Pilots (1-2).

MICHIGAN 55, NO. 4 UCLA 52

At New York, DeShawn Sims scored 18 points and Manny Harris added 15 to help Michigan upset UCLA in the semifinals of the 2K Sports Classic.

The Wolverines will face Duke in the championship game tonight.

With his team trailing 48-46 with 4:16 left, Stu Douglass hit a long 3-pointer to give Michigan the lead. Darren Collison was stripped on the other end, leading to a layup by Sims that made it 51-48 Wolverines.

UCLA (2-1) cut the deficit to two when Josh Shipp made one of two free throws with 56 seconds left. After Michigan (3-0) worked the shot clock down, Anthony Wright found Sims on a backdoor cut for an emphatic, two-handed dunk that gave the Wolverines a four-point lead with 28 seconds remaining.

NO. 10 DUKE 83, SOUTHERN ILLINOIS 58

At New York, Gerald Henderson scored all 20 of his points in the second half, finally helping Duke find some offensive rhythm against Southern Illinois.

Jon Scheyer and Kyle Singler each added 13 points for the Blue Devils (4-0), who advanced to the championship round of the tournament benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer.

SETON HALL 63, NO. 19 USC 61

At San Juan, Puerto Rico, Jeremy Hazell scored 17 points and Eugene Harvey hit a free throw with 5 seconds remaining to help Seton Hall beat Southern California in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off.

After Harvey missed his second free throw, USC's Daniel Hackett missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Harvey scored 16 points and added a team-high five assists for the Pirates (3-0), who overcame a 43-28 halftime deficit to pull off the upset. John Garcia had 11 points and 18 rebounds.

Taj Gibson led USC (2-1) with 19 points and 18 rebounds.

Pac-10 men

CALIFORNIA 85, TEXAS PAN-AMERICAN 58

At Berkeley, Calif., Jamal Boykin matched his career high with 18 points, and Jerome Randle added 10 points and seven assists to lead California in the first round of the Global Sports Classic.

Patrick Christopher added 12 points for the Bears (3-0).
