State seeks grant for high-speed rail

• Published October 06, 2009

Washington's Department of Transportation has applied for more than $1.3 billion in federal stimulus money for high-speed passenger rail grants.

The state hopes to get money for 26 projects in the second round of funding for passenger rail. However, it has to compete with other states hoping for a share of the $8 billion available under the program.

The state wants federal dollars to add at least one more Amtrak Cascades trip between Portland and Seattle, and other passenger rail improvements.
