Skiers and snowboarders will have to wait a little longer for Crystal Mountain's new gondola and the reopening of Summit East.
Not even Santa will be able to deliver two items on the wish lists of local skiers and snowboarders in time for Christmas.
Silvan Zurbriggen of Switzerland won a World Cup downhill in Val Gardena, Italy, in 1 minute, 57.21 seconds.
Gold and bronze medals at the Vancouver Games, plus a third consecutive World Cup overall title, helped Lindsey Vonn become the 2010 Female Athlete of the Year, chosen by members of The Associated Press. She is the first skier - male or female – to win one of the annual AP awards, which began in 1931.
This morning at 8:45 a.m., the $9 million Paradise Basin expansion opens to the public. The terrain includes 767 acres with a sweeping view of Mount Rainier, two new lifts and a 5,600-square-foot lodge that general manager Kevin McCarthy says will open in a couple of weeks.

St. Louis Blues forward Keith Tkachuk is retiring after the season and will play his final home game Friday. A five-time All-Star and four-time U.S. Olympian, the 38-year-old Tkachuk has 1,063 points on 538 goals and 525 assists and 2,219 penalty minutes.
