This morning at 8:45 a.m., the $9 million Paradise Basin expansion opens to the public. The terrain includes 767 acres with a sweeping view of Mount Rainier, two new lifts and a 5,600-square-foot lodge that general manager Kevin McCarthy says will open in a couple of weeks.

St. Louis Blues forward Keith Tkachuk is retiring after the season and will play his final home game Friday. A five-time All-Star and four-time U.S. Olympian, the 38-year-old Tkachuk has 1,063 points on 538 goals and 525 assists and 2,219 penalty minutes.
Lindsey Vonn is no longer perfect in downhill races. Not to worry, she says. It might help her win an Olympic title.
The Henry M. Jackson Memorial Visitor Center at Paradise will be open Monday for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
A board of review will meet today at Mount Rainier National Park to study a series of searches this winter in hopes of improving visitor safety.
