The long-awaited unveiling of the Mt. Rainier Gondola at Crystal Mountain has been delayed, according to resort spokeswoman Tiana Enger.
The $5.5 million gondola – the first at any Washington ski area – was supposed to open today.
Enger says the final inspection is now scheduled for Dec. 20.
An opening day for the gondola is not set, but Enger says, “My guess is that it will open on Dec. 22.”
Off the three major expansion projects in the Washington Cascades, White Pass’ new 767-acre Paradise Basin remains the only one open.
The Summit at Snoqualmie plans to open an expanded Summit East after a two-season closure over the holidays.
The National Weather Service says there could be rain on Snoqualmie Pass today, but it will turn to snow tonight and Saturday. Rain is predicted Sunday through Sunday.
The forecast is more favorable for ski areas at higher elevations like Crystal Mountain and White Pass. The National Weather Service predicts snow today through Tuesday with a chance of rain Monday.
