MASTER GARDENER TRAINING The Washington State University Lewis County Master Gardeners need volunteers to become Master Gardeners. Training involves online study, a full-day hands-on training on the third Tuesday of each month, and field experience in plant clinics and demonstration gardens. RETIRED AND SENIOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM (RSVP) needs volunteers to fill a variety of needs. Senior Services for South Sound needs volunteer tech instructors to help seniors stay connected through social media and other outlets. The Family Support Center needs volunteer greeters at its new shelter. Local middle schools need volunteer math tutors. Catholic Community Services needs volunteers to help elderly and disabled people with home repairs. Thurston County Food Bank needs volunteers to sort donations, pack boxes, distribute food and help those seeking assistance. TOGETHER needs volunteer homework buddies at an after-school program. The Boys and Girls Club’s after-school program needs retirees to share a hobby or teach a skill. THE CRISIS CLINIC OF THURSTON AND MASON COUNTIES needs volunteers for its Crisis Line and Youth Help Line. After receiving 60 hours of training, volunteers offer free, anonymous, confidential, and nonjudgmental crisis intervention over the phone; the hotlines are staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
