Volunteer of the week

Name: Jim Silver.

Age: 85.

City: Lacey.

Volunteer’s activities: Silver, a Panorama resident, volunteers in the retirement community’s recycling program. He enjoys folk dancing and walking, and has participated in the 5K at the Senior Games. In addition, Silver visits a local care facility daily to spend time with his wife of 63 years.

This volunteer is special because: “Jim is extremely active in the Panorama recycling program. He spends three days a week monitoring the recycle bins and has made a big difference in the recycling program,” said Melissa Thoemk, Panorama Fitness Coordinator.

Volunteering is important to this volunteer because: “It’s an outlet for me. It always gives me something to do. Sometimes people don’t jump in, but people know there is lots to be done. It gives me a lot of personal satisfaction,” Silver said.

Silver will receive a plaque from the Volunteer Center and KGY Radio, courtesy of Deer Creek Awards, a division of Color Graphics.
