Volunteer of the week

Name: Carl Longnecker

Age: 74

City: Olympia

Volunteer’s activities include: Carl Longnecker volunteers at the Medical Equipment Bank through Thurston County Council on Aging/Senior News. He has been volunteering there more than six years.

This volunteer is special because: “Carl runs the Medical Equipment Bank, organizes the other volunteers and does public relations. He basically has been on-call for years to provide equipment to those in need,” said Rick Crawford of Thurston County Council on Aging/Senior News.

Volunteering is important to this volunteer because: “A lot of people would do without the equipment they need if they couldn’t get it from us. Many people can’t afford medical equipment. ... It’s not just for seniors. Anyone who needs it, they can borrow it,” Longnecker said.

Longnecker will receive a plaque from the Volunteer Center and KGY Radio, courtesy of Deer Creek Awards, a division of Color Graphics.
