Expert to show how to photograph wildflowers

The South Sound chapter of the Washington Native Plant Society is hosting a program Wednesday on photographing the wildflowers of Mount Rainier National Park.

Photographer Donovan Tracy will be the speaker. He is the co-author of the Burke Museum’s “Alpine Flowers of Mount Rainier.” The wildflower field guide was published in 2011.

Tracy will share some tips and techniques that he has learned during the hundreds of days in the field at the park. The program is meant for novice photographers to serious amateur photographers who want to more thoroughly study and photograph plants in their natural environment.

Some of the topics that Tracy will cover include light and exposure, composition and close-up photography. He also will talk about one of the wildflower hikes at the park.

The free program will begin at 7 p.m. at Tacoma Nature Center, 1919 S. Tyler St., Tacoma.
