2-10 Home Buyers Warranty is a premier home warranty provider that’s offered services for more than 40 years. As with its competitors, the company’s warranty contracts give homeowners some peace of mind that they could be covered when natural wear and tear causes appliances and systems to fail.

In partnership with independent service contractors across the country, the company promises to ensure that when something breaks down in your home, you have access to a trusted service provider to get the work done.

2-10 Home Buyers Warranty deductibles and service fees are in line with competitors. But should you sign up?

2-10 Home Buyers Warranty: Weighing the pros and cons

Pros
  • Wide Range of Additional Coverage Options
  • Real Estate Agent Options
  • Exclusive Discounts
Cons
  • Limited Contractor Availability
  • Poorly Rated Customer Service

No matter which company you’re considering for a home warranty, it’s essential to consider the pros and cons before you get started.

2-10 Home Buyers Warranty is a leader with plenty of compelling features — but it’s not perfect. Here are the 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty pros and cons you should consider before you sign up.

The Pros

2-10 Home Buyers Warranty serves more than 1 million customers across the United States. Some of the most significant advantages of working with the company are outlined below.

Wide range of additional coverage

2-10 Home Buyers Warranty offers three comprehensive coverage plans for the appliances and systems. However, if you’d like coverage for more appliances and systems in your home, you can add those supplements to one of the three core packages.

Some of those add-ons include:

  • Supreme Package. 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty supreme coverage expands the coverage available for multiple essential systems in your home. This includes heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing systems, and some appliance and electrical repairs.
  • Washer & Dryer. This add-on extends your appliance coverage to your washer and dryer.
  • Luxury Package. If you take advantage of the Luxury Package add-on, the company increases your coverage limit to $5,000 on appliances, heating, and cooling systems.
  • Plumbing & Electrical. This add-on helps ensure you’re not left with a hefty bill if your plumbing or electrical systems break down.
  • HVAC Surplus. The HVAC Surplus add-on is designed for you if you have more than one HVAC system.
  • Garage Door Opener. If you have a garage door opener, this add-on ensures it’s covered.

Real estate agent options

2-10 Home Buyers Warranty offers real estate agent coverage options that give agents multiple benefits. This is a stand-alone coverage option lasts for 180 days and comes with the following perks for agents:

  • A Sales Tool. Real estate clients might appreciate knowing that when they buy from you, their home comes with an extended warranty to cover their systems and appliances after the transaction closes.
  • Saving Time. When clients have a home warranty, the realtor need worry less about fielding calls for failed appliances and systems, including ones to walk new homeowners through finding help.
  • Seller & Buyer Coverage Options. Realtors can take advantage of home warranties that cover sellers and buyers.

Discounts on replacement appliances

2-10 Home Buyers Warranty offers exclusive discounts with major brands that can help you in a pinch. A home warranty doesn’t always cover repairs to an appliance or system that breaks down. If, according to the warranty company, the item is not worth repairing, you may instead be issued a payment in lieu of repair. That amount will be a depreciated value for your appliance to system.

The company has partnered with companies like GE, Monogram, Haier, and Hotpoint to provide its customers with exclusive pricing when your warranty requires you to replace an appliance. These discounts are also available if you’re not purchasing a replacement covered under your warranty. For example, if you want a second refrigerator, you can apply the customer discount to that purchase..

The cons

There’s no such thing as a perfect company, and 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty is certainly no exception. Some of the most important disadvantages to consider before you sign up for a 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty include:

Contractor availability

When you file a 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty claim, the company matches you with a partnered contractor to take care of the work. That sounds convenient, but there’s a downside.

The contractor in your area the company partners with may not be available immediately. In fact, an excessive number of public 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty complaints suggest the contractors who partner with the company are extremely busy. Cases are mentioned in which it was weeks before the contractor got to your work.

Such a delay may work for you in select instances. More often, though, waiting weeks to have an appliance or system fixed isn’t practical.

Customer service

Slow contractor responses aside, 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty reviews often cite another customer service issue: the company’s support staff that lack courtesy and understanding.

During this review, we contacted the customer service team and were not met with the same uncomfortable experience as others who have written complaints. We spoke to a friendly, knowledgeable, and well-trained support staff member.

However, ours was only a single anecdotal experience.. Based on the reviews others have written about 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty customer service, such courtesy is far from guaranteed.

Available in fewer states than some other companies

The states in which 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty is available are fewer in number than some other competitors. That said, the company offers coverage for all but these nine states:

  • Alabama
  • Alaska
  • Hawaii
  • Montana
  • New Hampshire
  • North Dakota
  • Oklahoma
  • South Dakota
  • Wyoming

As long as you don’t live in one of the states mentioned above, you can access a home warranty contract from 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty.

2-10 Home Buyers Warranty levels of coverage and costs

There are three primary 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty plans available. Of course, when a plan covers more, it usually costs more. Several supplements to the 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty allow you to add coverage if the standard plans fall short of what you want.

Keep in mind that with all home warranty products, plans typically have coverage caps. In addition, the warranty may only cover specific parts of systems.

For example, the 2-10 heating system coverage covers one centrally ducted gas or electrical system, along with the system’s thermostat and interior gas supply lines. So if an exterior gas line is a problem, 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty may not cover damages.

Here’s the breakdown of the company’s plans and packages:

Simply Kitchen

The company’s starter package is called Simply Kitchen. Prices for this package start at just $19 per month. But your cost might be higher, depending on the value of your covered items.

As its name suggests, the Simply Kitchen package is designed to cover only your kitchen appliances. When something breaks down, you pay a $100 minimum service fee and 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty takes care of the rest of the cost for you, provided the company approves the repair.

Complete Home

The Complete Home package is one of the most comprehensive plans available from 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty. It offers coverage for all kitchen appliances along with that for your home’s major heating, cooling, plumbing and electrical systems.

It’s the lowest-cost 2-10 package that covers those systems. Pricing varies depending on the value of systems and appliances you need covered.

Pinnacle Home

Pinnacle Home is the most comprehensive coverage option at 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty. The plan includes all the appliances and systems encompassed by the Simply Kitchen and Complete Home offerings, and then some.

For one, the package comes with the company’s Supreme coverage add-on, increasing the caps on coverage for major appliances and systems to $5,000.

Pinnacle Home also increases the type of coverage you’re offered. For example, the plan includes items omitted from other 2-10 plans, such as the cost of a crane to remove heavy components, such as an exterior AC unit, and replacement refrigerant for a fridge or freezer.

Extended Coverage from a Home Buyers Warranty

2-10 Home Buyers Warranty is one of the few companies that covers not only appliances and home systems but the home’s structural components. This add-on protection is offered through a structural warranty that covers the integrity of your home for up to five years.

The company also offers a Builder Warranty for contractors. Covering essential aspects of the construction of the house, these products give builders a way to hand over the keys to newly-built homes while having a warranty to cover structural issues that rise after the closing.

What do the customer reviews say about 2-10?

Most 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty reviews are favorable. This aligns with company claims that more than 97% of 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty claims are approved and covered.

On the other hand, we found instances where customers report receiving less from their warranty than was promised and expected. The two most common complaints were:

  • Contractor Delays. Some customers had to wait weeks to get the repairs they needed.
  • Overall customer service. Some customers were unhappy with the quality and courtesy of their interactions with company staff.
