Army hearing today for suspect in slayings

An Army hearing is scheduled for today to examine evidence against the woman accused of killing a soldier couple at Fort Lewis last year.

Spec. Ivette Davila, a chemical operations specialist, is accused of shooting Staff Sgt. Timothy Miller and his wife, Sgt. Randi Miller, and kidnapping their child in March 2008.

According to the Army, Davila faces charges of premeditated murder, burglary and kidnapping.

Officially known as a pretrial investigation, today’s hearing at Fort Lewis is similar to a grand jury investigation. An investigating officer will review evidence presented by defense and prosecution attorneys in order to make a recommendation regarding the sufficiency of the charges and the appropriate level of court-martial.
