Missing boy, 7, found near home

A missing 7-year-old boy, Lucas Sampson, the subject of a Kitsap County Sheriff's Office search and rescue mission since midnight Saturday, was located Sunday morning.

He was found inside a private home on Southeast Lincoln Avenue, in South Kitsap, approximately three-fourths of a mile from his residence.

The child was reported to be well.

The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue had conducted an area search for the missing South Kitsap boy.

The child, a second-grader at East Port Orchard Elementary School, had been missing since Saturday afternoon.

He was last seen at his home in Port Orchard about 4 p.m. Saturday.

The child was at home with his father, Ronald Sampson, on Saturday afternoon. The father fell asleep on the couch. When he awoke, Lucas was gone. The boy does have a previous history of leaving home without permission.

The family contacted the boy’s friends without results and then conducted a search of their own. They called Saturday at approximately 9 p.m. to request help.
