Commute may be affected by road work

The following projects are expected to affect traffic in South Sound in the coming week, according to the state Department of Transportation.

South Thurston County: Ongoing work is expected to create slowdowns from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays on Interstate 5 from Grand Mound to Maytown. Also, alternating lanes will be closed on state Route 121 near I-5 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays.

Lacey: The shoulder in both directions of Martin Way at I-5 is closed 24 hours a day, and pedestrian access on westbound Martin Way is restricted.

Pierce County: Shoulder and median sweeping will affect traffic from 10:30 p.m. Tuesday to 4:30 a.m. Wednesday and 10:30 p.m. Wednesday to 4:30 a.m. Thursday in both directions of I-5 from the Nisqually River Bridge to the Pierce-King County line.

McKenna: Utility work will close alternating lanes of state Route 702, from state Route 507 to 31st Avenue South. The work will be done from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. weekdays.
