Jeremy's original story:

Thurston County sheriff's deputies were seeking a man suspected of fatally shooting another man in the street on Lucerne Lane near the corner of Deerbrush Loop in the Meadows neighborhood Thursday evening.

Reports of multiple gunshots were first reported by neighbors around 6:40 p.m., sheriff’s Lt. Chris Mealy said.

First responders found a man lying in the street, dead of an apparent gunshot wound, he said. The man, a Thurston County resident believed to be in his 20s, was not identified Thursday night pending notification of next of kin, Mealy said. The man did not live in the neighborhood where the shooting took place, he said.

Details about what happened leading up to the shooting were sketchy Thursday night. Mealy said there was some kind of a fight outside in the street on Lucerne Lane prior to one man pulling out a handgun and firing multiple shots, he said.

Detectives were interviewing witnesses around 8 p.m. Thursday, trying to piece together what happened. Orange cones were laid in the street marking the path the homicide victim walked until he collapsed.

Preliminary reports from witnesses indicate the shooting suspect left the area alone in a vehicle, Mealy said.

Mealy did not have a description of the vehicle, and the suspect was still at large as of around 9 p.m. No one else was believed to have been hurt, he added.
