A pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle on Plum Street in Olympia around 5 p.m. Saturday.
The 30-year-old driver of a 2008 Jeep Wrangler was driving south on Plum Street from Fourth Avenue. As the driver approached the area of the liquor store, the pedestrian was reportedly seen by witnesses running into the street. The driver was unable to stop. It was reported to be dark and raining at the time.
Medics worked on the victim but were unable to save him and he died at the scene. He is believed to be a local transient in his 40s. The coroner’s office has not released the victim’s name, pending notification of family.
The driver was not hurt.
