Ninety-eight pounds of shelled hazelnuts that were sold Nov. 17 through Dec. 13 at the Olympia Farmers Market are being recalled by their manufacturer, Burnt Ridge Orchards of Onalaska, because they have the potential to be contaminated with salmonella.
The hazelnuts were packed in 8- and 16-ounce plastic bags. Salmonella can cause fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain, and can be fatal in rare cases. No illnesses have been reported from the hazelnuts, according to the manufacturer.
Consumers who have purchased the hazelnuts are urged to throw them away and contact the manufacturer for a refund. For more information, call Burnt Ridge Orchards during business hours at 360-985-2873.
