A man's body was found Saturday morning floating near a dock on the east side of Gig Harbor bay, across the water from downtown Gig Harbor, the Pierce County Sheriff's Department reported.

A homeowner spotted the body around 11 a.m. in the water off private docks in the 7900 block of Goodman Drive Northwest, spokesman Ed Troyer said.

He described the body as a balding white male about 60 years of age, wearing a black jacket, blue jeans and white socks. There were no obvious signs of trauma, Troyer said.

The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office will work to establish the cause of death and the man’s identity. The Sheriff’s Department also is investigating.
