The victims, ages 16 and 22, were northbound on Golden Given at about 9 p.m. when the accident occurred, Pierce County Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.
They struck a white pickup, possibly a Chevrolet, that had been southbound on Golden Given and was turning east onto 97th Street East, Troyer said.
The pickup truck driver fled from the scene, Troyer said, although he or she probably would not have faced charges.
The two victims were riding a bike that was “not street-legal,” Troyer said, and they were not wearing helmets.
The families of the victims were on the scene late Sunday and were being aided by a police chaplain.
