Bellingham motorcyclist in serious condition after colliding with deer

A 64-year-old Bellingham man was injured Sunday, Aug. 15, after his motorcycle collided with a deer on Lakeway Drive.

Around 7:30 p.m., Steven Bardwell was westbound on Lakeway near Euclid Avenue when a deer ran out from a wooded area and tried to jump over Bardwell’s 2007 Suzuki motorcycle, according to the Washington State Patrol. The deer hit the motorcycle and Bardwell was thrown off it.

Bardwell, who was wearing a helmet, was taken to St. Joseph hospital. He was in serious condition Monday.

No information was available on the whether the deer survived.
