William J. Arzon, 31, was arrested outside the downtown Bellingham nightclub after pulling out a gun and struggling with police officers.
The incident began at about 1:40 a.m. when a regular customer at The Royal, 208 E. Holly St., told an employee he had seen a man carrying a gun inside the nightclub, said Mark Young, spokesman for the Bellingham Police Department.

The officers got Arzon to the ground on his stomach but were unable to get his hands out from underneath him. Arzon then drew a 9-millimeter semi-automatic pistol from his waistband, and one officer grabbed the barrel of the gun and pointed it away from them, Young said.
As the struggle continued, two more officers arrived to help. The officers were able to wrestle the loaded gun away from Arzon, Young said.
Arzon was booked into Whatcom County Jail for investigation of first-degree assault, resisting arrest and unlawful possession of a firearm as well as a warrant from the Department of Corrections.
