The 44-year-old man killed in Thursday's shootout at a Lakebay home has been identified as Rhett Cecil Whitchurch of Maple Valley.
Meanwhile Saturday, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department still was searching for three suspects in the Key Peninsula gunfight.
Whitchurch was found inside the front doorway of the home in the 19100 block of Second Street KPN after the 8:30 p.m. shooting that sent a hail of gunfire through the wooded neighborhood.
Six armed people dressed in camouflage are believed to have approached the home at night, and were met by at least three men inside who also were armed, the Sheriff’s Department said.
Fifty to 100 rounds were fired in the gun battle. The Sheriff’s Department said the shootout may have stemmed from a drug deal gone bad.
Whitchurch is believed to have been among the attackers. Five people have been arrested.
