TIETON, Wash. - A woman's death that was originally reported as a suicide is now being treated as a homicide.
The Yakima County Sheriff’s Office this afternoon said the 31-year-old man who made the initial report on Saturday has been arrested and investigators are seeking a charge of second-degree murder against him.
Investigators found a number of significant inconsistencies in the man’s story based on an an examination of the scene and the wounds the suffered by Sabrina Flores, Stew Graham, chief of detectives, said in a press release.
Graham declined to be specific about the nature of those inconsistencies.
Flores died from a gunshot wound to the head.
The shooting occurred at 7:50 p.m. Saturday at a home in the 900 block of North Tieton Road.
The man, arrested at the scene for unrelated warrants, is scheduled for a preliminary appearance Tuesday in Yakima County Superior Court.
An autopsy on Flores’ body is scheduled for Tuesday.
Sheriff’s detectives took over the case at the request of Tieton police.
