FAIRBANKS - A former North Pole postal worker has been accused of throwing away more than 80 pieces of mail, then lying to investigators when he was questioned about it.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reported 31-year-old Geoff Owen was indicted on perjury and misapplication of property charges after the U.S. Postal Service's Office of Inspector General found 87 pieces of first class mail and one piece of certified mail in a trash receptacle at the North Pole transfer site July 13.
Owen faces up to 10 years in prison for the perjury charge and up to one year for the misapplication of property charge.
Owen is scheduled to be arraigned on Nov. 23.
