Tacoma firefighters found a body inside the cab of a semi truck after the truck and trailer burst into flames early today.
Arson investigators from the Tacoma police and fire departments have responded to the scene to investigate.
"They are working together to figure out what happened," Tacoma Fire spokeswoman Jolene Davis said this morning.
Firefighters were called to the 400 block of East 19th Street just after 2 a.m. after receiving reports of two loud explosions in the area of a trucking company, Davis said.
They found a large semi truck and trailer engulfed in flames. It was not immediately known whether the truck was associated with the trucking company, Davis said.
Fire crews extinguished the flames, which were contained to the tractor trailer. During their investigation, firefighters found what appeared to be human remains in the cab and called Tacoma police, Davis said.
Tacoma police have taken over the investigation, she added.
Investigators will be working with the Pierce County Medical Examiner's to identify the body and determine how the person died.
