Death count from Midwest storm system hits 6

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Authorities say a third person has been killed in Missouri by a powerful storm system that spawned several tornadoes and claimed at least three lives in Arkansas.

Phelps County Emergency Management Director Sandy North says the woman was killed Friday morning when her home about a mile north of Rolla was destroyed by the storm. North says six others were injured in the county, including one critically. She says about 20 homes have been destroyed or seriously damaged.

North says power lines are down throughout the area and hundreds of trees have been uprooted.

Tornadoes from the storm killed three people in the Arkansas hamlet of Cincinnati, near the Oklahoma border. A possible tornado also downed trees and power lines in central Illinois on Friday.
