BELLINGHAM - An 18-year-old transient was arrested Monday, Feb. 7, after eluding police in a stolen car.
A Bellingham Police officer attempted to pull over a black 2000 Ford Taurus for not having a front license plate at about 2 p.m. in the 600 block of West Holly Street, said Bellingham Police spokesman Mark Young.
The Taurus did not stop despite the officer turning on the lights and siren, Young said. The driver eventually turned southbound on Central Avenue and abandoned the car behind Dairy Distributing Inc., Young said.
The suspect was located nearby, and it was discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Everett Dec. 23, Young said.
Stolen property also was found in the vehicle.
Aleksey T. Gayda was booked into Whatcom County Jail for investigation of felony eluding, possession of a stolen vehicle and no valid operator's license.
