A dispute between a man and a woman at Tacoma Mall this afternoon ended with broken glass and shattered nerves inside Macy's department store.
Tacoma police said no shots were fired at the mall, despite initial calls to the 911 dispatch center. Reports indicate that no one was injured. The mall was not evacuated, and remains open for business.
Witnesses say a fight broke out between the man and woman in the food court area of the mall. They were seen walking toward Macy's and fighting.
Lindsey Millar, 23, of Seattle was in Victoria’s Secret with her friend Andrew Lazarin and saw the man and woman walking. “He was just yelling, screaming about something.”
Millar said the woman was pulling on the man’s shoulder, trying to get him to calm down.
"He was screaming about something. I don't know what," said Lazarin, 24, of Olympia. Lazarin speculated that it looked like a "boyfriend thing."
Witnesses inside Macy's said the man was yelling and began smashing displays and perfume bottles in the cosmetics area of the store.
Millar said Victoria's Secret – which is next door to Macy's – locked down when the commotion began. "They shut the gate and kept us in there" for about five or 10 minutes.
"When they figured out it wasn't gunshots, they let us out," Millar said.
