A Sumner man pleaded guilty Tuesday to vehicular homicide in a September collision that killed a local youth pastor two weeks before his wedding day.
Joseph Patrick McNeil, 30, will be sentenced March 31. McNeil remains free on bail until then.
Samuel Stephens, 24, died in the wreck. Stephens lived in Graham but served as youth pastor at EastPointe Church in Bonney Lake.
Pierce County prosecutors said McNeil was driving a four-wheel drive vehicle west on Stewart Road Southwest in Pacific just before 2 a.m. when he crossed into the oncoming lane and hit Stephens’ car head-on.
Police reported McNeil showed “obvious signs of intoxication” immediately after the wreck, including bloodshot and watery eyes, slurred speech and the odor of intoxicants on his breath, court records show.
