A multi-agency law enforcement gang sweep in the Tri-Cities Wednesday netted 25 arrests, including seven juveniles.“We deemed it to be a very successful operation,” said Ken Hohenberg, Kennewick police chief.
Officers from every agency in the Tri-Cities, including agents from Grandview, the Department of Corrections, Drug Enforcement Administration and the U.S. Marshal’s Office, were involved.
The early morning police action called Operation Spring Cleaning was the fifth gang sweep for Benton and Franklin counties in the past 20 months.
“Gang members should realize we are going to be relentless in pursuing gang activity,” said Denis Austin, Pasco police chief.“When you take these people off the street, crime drops like a rock,” Austin added.
Wednesday’s arrests reflect a downward trend, which Hohenberg believes shows the policing is having a positive effect."There will be more," Hohenberg said.
