Lakewood police on Tuesday arrested two people in the fatal shooting and robbery of a man at Wards Lake Park last week.
Detectives said a 19-yearold woman lured Elias Lopez Lopez , 27, to the park at 2716 84th Street South while her 18-year-old boyfriend waited in the dark late Thursday.
“It was a robbery that was planned,” Lt. Chris Lawler said.
The boyfriend assaulted and demanded money from Lopez Lopez after he arrived in the park, police said. When the victim fought back and started to run away, police said, the boyfriend shot him.
Officers were called to the park about 10 p.m. by neighbors who heard several gunshots. A group of children found Lopez Lopez’s body in the playground area shortly after.
Detectives found and interviewed the 19-year-old woman, who was already in jail for trying to elude a pursuing police vehicle, felony hit and run, obstructing a public servant and unlawful possession of marijuana.
Charging papers say officers pulled the woman over Friday and she sped away when one of the officers put his hand on the car door. After she crashed her vehicle, police found a gun and marijuana in the car.
Her boyfriend was a passenger in the vehicle that night, police said.
Officers have not said how woman lured Lopez Lopez to the park but Lawler said they had recently met.
The woman told police that after the shooting, she and her boyfriend took Lopez Lopez’s money and other belongings before running away.
