Breastfeeding Umatilla prison guard fired

An Eastern Oregon woman is fighting to clear her name after she was fired a second time from a job at a state prison, this time she says over a complaint about pumping breast milk to feed her infant son.

The East Oregonian reports that 29-year-old Patty Horn worked at the Two Rivers Correctional Institution in Umatilla as a corrections officer.

But she claims she was fired after complaining about unsanitary conditions while trying to pump breast milk for her son.

Horn worked previously at the Eastern Oregon Correctional Institution in Pendleton, where she was fired after complaining about sexual harassment. But she won a settlement in that case.

Her attorney has notified the state she may file a lawsuit and state officials say they can’t comment on pending litigation.
