Average airfares paid by passengers at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport rose by nearly 6 percent in the first quarter of this year compared with the same quarter in 2009, a new government study says.
The study, published by the federal Bureau of Transportation Statistics, said the average airfare at Sea-Tac during the first three months was $327.64, up from $309.33 in the first quarter of 2009, when the recession was in full effect.
That figure puts Sea-Tac passengers’ fares just below the national average of $328.12.
Passengers in Huntsville, Ala., paid the nation’s highest average fares, the study said. The average there was $499.59. Passengers in Atlantic City, N.J., paid the lowest among the nation’s top 100 airports. That average was $187.78.
