So, you want to get off your flight earlier. American Airlines has a new scheme to ensure that you do.
The Fort Worth, Texas-based airline is adding a surcharge for the privilege of sitting in the first few rows of coach.
That surcharge will vary by the length of the flight. A short flight, say from Dallas to New Orleans, will incur a charge of $19 extra for a front-of-the-section seat. On a longer flight, New York to Los Angeles, for example, the airline will charge $39 for that seat.
The seats won’t have more legroom or greater width, but they will be closer to the exit in case you can’t take the wait for the passengers in front of you to clear out.
