The leaves have yet to begin dropping from the trees, but the first sure sign of impending autumn emerged Tuesday.
Airlines are cutting fares after the busy summer season to bolster traffic in the traditionally slack fall months.
SeaTac’s Alaska Airlines, for instance, on Tuesday announced its first fall sale.
That sale cuts fares on some seats if you buy your tickets between now and next Tuesday. The new fares apply to travel between Sept. 8 and Dec. 15. Prices are good on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, the lightest travel days of the week.
Here are some example fares: Seattle and the San Francisco Bay Area’s three airports, San Francisco, San Jose and Oakland. One-way fare: $69. Seattle to Ketchikan, Alaska, one way, $189. Spokane and Los Angeles, $99.
Other airlines are likely to match those fares. Remember, not all seats are priced at these bargain rates.
